( CHARACTER INFORMATION )
Name/Work Name: Daria Morgendorffer/Riye
Canon: Daria
Canon Point: Post-finale/"Is it College Yet?"
AU/CRAU: N
Age: 18
History: Summarization of "Is it College Yet?".
Personality:
"I don't have low self esteem ... I have low esteem for everyone else."
Daria is foremost, a sarcastic, anti-social, intelligent, mature, and cynical one. She has very pessimistic views on society and isn't afraid to let people know it in the most brutal and cutthroat manner. She's highly honest about her own feelings, no matter how brutal they are.
She is viewed by peers as a "Brain", an unpopular girl with her head in a book often. She was the one who actually cared about learning and knowledge more than fashion and boys, literally she had done nothing else in school due to being generally unmotivated. Daria wears very unfashionable clothes, having pale skin without any make-up, doting thick framed glasses, and has a look of disinterest and general lack of expression. She doesn't believe in faking enthusiasm and doesn't smile unless something really truly pleases her. Which, really, is quite difficult to do. She's a bit of a pain that way.
Being a "Brain" makes her very much intelligent and is the most remarkable thing about her next to her snark. She is a straight "A" quality student and could write reports and essays like a true pro. She's almost always reading when alone, and has a very creative side when it comes to writing herself. She writes fiction often, but doesn't let too many people actually read her personal fiction. She is shown to have a very vivid imagination, often writing using very good detail. Though she does write about controversial subjects, and it may not be suitable for all readers.
Daria's speech is very morose. She has a very dead pan, monotone, and dark sense of humor, which not everyone may appreciate. She is sarcastic and critical to the point in which people might find her even very much unfriendly, which is actually what she goes for most of the time. Disliking how the system is usually screwed, she actively goes against it. This makes her very anti-social as she holds a very strong set of standards. She is so anti-social that she is not very motivated to do much outside of her comfort zone, and has had to be forced into things by threats or bribes from her parents and teachers. To add to her almost unreal anti-social behavior (Note: she took a career test and it said that she would be best suited to work as a mortician with her social skills), she is highly judgmental of others as well; not giving far too many people the benefit of the doubt if they irritate her, especially in the first meeting. No one is safe from her words when she wants to criticize.
Despite her honesty and anti-social flavor of criticism, she may get off the impression she's apathetic to people and is a miserable person. This isn't really the case, as her pessimistic cynicism is only skin deep. Daria is really a very sensitive and realistic person. When a person is genuine, not shallow, listens to her, treats her with respect, she could be rather receptive. If she has that line of respect and believes that a person really thinks for him/herself, she will surely listen and respect back. If said person asks for help, she'll give it and give it honestly. She harbors a certain kindness that people could really see if they get to know her.
While she's realistic about feelings and issues of plenty of nature, Daria's greatest flaws are at times with her own hidden feelings. When she messes up with a friend, it could really tear her up and confuse her. Her morals may be strong but there could be times when she can't even uphold her standards, and she could figure that out fast and feel really down in the dumps. She's even aware of these flaws, but feels like her demeanor works for her currently. Post canon helped her come to realizing even more things but it would be a slow process. Romance is another beast all together, and is one of the things that drives her to some insecurity. Insecurity comes up naturally at times for her, especially toward her own skills and strengths. This makes Daria have a pretty big vulnerability underneath that integral strength and good sense of self, she's defended to the point of shunning being better than trying and being hated.
Debt:
Daria will have moved in her college dorm about to start a new life and try to figure herself out and what she wants to do. A few weeks have passed and Daria sat in her dorm room at two in the morning typing on her laptop. She was already finished with her school papers and homework, writing for herself by now.
But after a few paragraphs, she shut off her laptop.
What am I doing? Why can't I seem to write anything right now? Did I think I could submit this anywhere? What if I sent it to the board for publishing, would they laugh it off and write me a rejection letter?
Was it the huge change after leaving Lawndale? Was it the newfound atmosphere and general life change? Growing up perhaps and not knowing where to take her writing?
It was difficult, and she thought about calling Jane over at BFAC but considered against it. Sleep a couple hours and call her at a reasonable hour, probably over breakfast at some joint in Boston. She'd been trying to find a good place for them to hang out and meet up, call it their place, since she got here.
She laid down and soon enough, was she dreaming? Who knew? But she heard a voice, and that voice asked a question.
I could grant anything you want, why not ask?
What was this, she would almost wonder. A dream, in which she could ask for what she wanted. At what consequence?
Daria hestitated, and suddenly, almost on the fly...she answered the voice.
"I want to be able to have my work published."
Inventory: Nothing but her clothes and her wallet. Wallet contained student ID and a few other cards. Nothing special but they're hers.
Abilities: Daria is a very mundane human and is actually fairly weak on the physical side. Her strength is entirely mental and has extraordinary intelligence. She's smart as hell, and isn't afraid to use this brain.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths:
- Insanely smart, genius level of smart.
- True to herself and doesn't let her standards falter. This makes her very headstrong and strong-willed.
- Creative, enjoys writing and has a knack for words.
- Sensitive, is very in tune to her feelings and the feelings of other people, though people may mistake her demeanor for being apathetic at first.
Weaknesses:
- Anti-social, to the point in which her school thought she could get a career with dead people. That bad.
- Critical, her snark leads her to being very judgmental the moment she sees something she dislikes or disagrees with. Sometimes too fast. She can be rather stubborn with these feelings.
- Unmotivated, she gets by with what she needs to do and doesn't ever go the extra mile. Unless if someone bribed or threatened her. She sticks her own comforts very strongly.
- Pain tolerance is at zero, seriously. Her shields are always up physically and mentally, she has an absolute fear of being hurt.
