[She wondered if the Daria a couple years ago would have gotten this far with someone like this. She wouldn't. She'd think he was an distrusting thug and would write him off as easy as other people would do to her.

People are not as alienated as you think.

Her mother said that to her, when Riye rattled with how she perceived sitations. Was she such an unrelenting, self righteous jerk who couldn't hold on to a friend?

Then her mother told her that Daria was right in which she stood for what she believed in because she felt they were right, that wasn't a character flaw. Believing in good wasn't a character flaw. But seeing how other people felt, and how they perceived things through their own experiences to survive in the real world...she had to understand.

So she sat, considered, did it pay off? Maybe. She sat there for that hour after being honest, and Mal somewhat coming clean without any real harshness.

Thanks. That was what she read. Nothing more, nothing less.

Accidents were a thing. But Mal didn't seem like a person who would lie about it. He didn't give a list of excuses, neither did he throw it at her face.

He was dismissive, sure. But she understood that more than he could imagine.

You're welcome.]
