AU Information

AU Name: Daria Barksdale
AU Age: 20 when turned, 28 years as a vampire
Physical Differences: None. Daria holds herself the same as she did in canon. Clothes meant for comfort, mostly.
AU History: Daria was born not from a generally well meaning but accidentally neglectful (immediate) family like in AU, but from an abusive wealthy family that had connections in merchants and politicians. Her sister was young but was favored due to her fair appearance and social demeanor. Daria was quiet and found comfort in solitary and intellectual pursuits since a young age, and was ultimately almost discarded when her sister was born. The ugly side of abandonment came to mind, but avoiding the potential controversy, she was kept at home. Beatings and harsh words didn't change their daughter so she was just...left alone and locked up. Imprisoned in a basement and barely kept from starving. Daria soon found solitary this way, almost accepting this treatment so she could continue her pursuits in silence.

That was until a death in the family shook the house, and the gravedigger and his daughter found her on accident on a mission when Daria tried to get better food while her family was distracted. This tiny poor family grew enamored with the woman. Daria almost thought about leaving with them to start a new life, but didn't want the controversy to endanger them. So meetings were in secret, food was given. Daria found work at the morgue, making some money to hopefully start a new life...with her new family. Her newfound "other" feelings for the equally morbid and funny daughter, Moira, budded.

Everything was great. Wonderful. Until, one day. Daria ran away to escape to the residence when she found them all murdered. Her familiar figure in the father, and...her love...all gone. Using her skills in deduction and science, she figured out who murdered them right before she was found and abducted by her family.

They did it. They didn't want their daughter's existence to go out. They wanted her to be dead in the eyes of the public. If they cared to speak to her, everything would be fine. Amends could be made, Daria could've had a live away from the family. Never speaking a word of them. She could be happy with people who loved her, she didn't care about anyone else.

But the risk was too great. And the chains, threats of violence...did nothing anymore. Daria would make one final escape, to make it count. But not without vengeance. It was a simple poison. In the family vintage. It was over quick too. Daria didn't care about the money, or anything. She just wanted to wander into nothing. If anything to revel in freedom before expiring, knowing she murdered her entire family. She didn't care about anyone else, nothing else. Until she was found by another.

Daria’s maker was an odd sort, like her. She promised Daria something she never had, the space to be safe in and do what she wanted. Of course, being Daria, she didn’t believe a word of it. She had nothing to prove, no one she wanted to impress. Before Daria would storm off, something her Maker expected, a reality was brought up that she could die and pass from this world and start over in another one. This time, all she had to do to earn her keep was continue her interest in knowledge and research for her and the court. Prove herself enough and then live by mostly her own accord.

Rules had to be followed, as her Maker suggested. But it took just enough after a few nights of bonding for there to be a mutual respect. Daria’s Maker, as promised, kept her distance. Checking in time after time to check on her progress, but mostly allowing her the chance to succeed in her new undead life. With no where else to go, she could be who she wanted in her own time. In the years that passed, Daria’s work and intellect earned her favor. Her continuous research in biology and writings gained high marks, and she grew out of being a novice sure enough. As promised, all Daria had to do was work to get there and soon she could rule her own space. Her own room, her own lab, and all of the books and writing tools she could ever need. Just like she wanted. With the title of teacher, however, she knew she still had to work on appearance to a degree. But she wasn’t obligated to show care or warmth, her Maker made sure about that. Daria soon figured that, by extension, she was still a pet to the court. But as long as she performed minimally, she had a fairly decent dog house. That was more than she ever got. Being her own person all over again meant also discovering parts of herself she never knew was there.

Maybe, in secret, that meant she took some enjoyment in the journey. Especially if she managed to actually make friends along the way.

AU Personality: The only major difference from canon is that Daria leans more into strict moral grey areas (fine with murder/killing if it calls for it, genuinely not caring about people until they earn her respect, etc). Her morbidity is more heavily influenced in her genuine explorations in the biology and study of the dead. As much as she would be sarcastic in her canon about only being comfortable around dead things, most of the time in here...that's actually true.

Course Information

Court: Silver. Daria's knack and interest in knowledge and learning despite her solitary nature fit the court to a tee. She was scouted and watched for this reason.
Subjects of Interest: Biology, Chemistry, Alchemy, Literature
Maker/Blood Claim: Daria's maker was as solitary as she was. But she was looking for someone to claim, picky about who she chose. Her travels led her to Daria's hometown. Interest in the large wealthy home, she scouted for interesting people in hiding (bat, shadow hiding). She took interest in the young scholar, abused into enjoying solitary. Perfect, someone who would fit in with her own solitary and left to her devices. She waited for the time to pounce. Not literally, but promising her a way to have a new life away from the living.

Not giving a damn anymore, that's what she was given. Vampires? Who care? A quiet life away from her shitty life? Yes. Her maker leaves her alone, for the most part, promising new research and stories to write and tell. Life, now, is fair. she wanted that to stay.
